Excited that you're here from the moment we met. Okay. And before we get into what you do now, Jill, I'm curious how this all actually started. You know, so what was going on in your life when coaching became more than just an idea?

Jill Hutchison 2:14

The first time I was really made aware of coaching was in 2007. We'd recently moved from South Africa to Australia, and I had three small children, and I read the book called The Secret. And I decided to train with some of the people that are featured in The Secret. And the more I researched about it, the more I saw that most of them had actually trained with Bob Proctor, who is very well known in terms of his mantra around thinking into results and thinking into success and goal achieving. So I decided to go and train with him. I also did some coaching training here in Australia and started my coaching practice soon after. I really wanted to make sure I could impact on people's lives in the same way as it was impacted on mine. Having said that, when I spoke to one of my previous leaders in my very much earlier career, he actually said to me, You've always been a coach. He said, You were hard to manage because you were always inside my head, challenging me on my goals and asking me what my direction was. So I guess informally or unknown to me, I was actually a coach long before that.

Oh, interesting. So in the early days already, you start noticing, well, other people notice, right? That you have uh that running through your veins. Like you're a coach. Okay, got it. And um, you know, there is always a shift that happens. So that's what I want to understand. Like, at what point did it stop feeling like a side thing or a calling, even, you know, and start feeling like an actual business you were responsible for? Because coaches in the early days, sometimes they're like, Oh, I'm giving some advice here and there, you know, this is something that's happening on the side, but eventually you take off, right? You take the leap of faith, you start your own business, and and that's the thing I'm interested in. It's like what what made you realize this is was a real thing? You know, was it the first paying client? Was it the first invoice, the CRM? I don't know. You know, can you walk me through that?

Jill Hutchison 4:18

Yeah, absolutely. It was uh quite a long time ago, so I'm not sure that I can that I can pinpoint the exact moment. But I think it was when I saw the results coming from people um as they started getting serious about their coaching and as they started really leaning in and being very clear with what they wanted, and then holding holding me to account as their coach for challenging them with the right questions, but then them stepping up and and calling me and saying, Hey, you won't believe it, but I secured a role or I got the results that I was looking for, yeah. That's when I realized that it was something a little bit more than than just a calling, it was more than just you know a nice chat. And it was, yeah. So I think I think it was the results. When I started seeing results, that's when I really, you know, really understood it.

Interesting. Okay. Now, once you were out there helping people, right, you realize you're delivering results and all of that. Uh, who did you naturally end up attracting? You know, when did you realize, okay, this is my tribe? And and the reason I asked this is because, again, in the early days for coaches, most coaches, not saying it's your case, but sometimes we're trying to help everyone, right? And we eventually sharpen the blade and we start attracting a certain type of individual. So, yeah, for you, walk me through the evolution of who you started serving and who do you serve now.

Jill Hutchison 5:44

Yeah, absolutely. Um, yeah, you're so right. At the beginning, you think that you can coach everyone. Uh, and uh you think that you know a lot more than you do. I think I often say that I knew more about parenting before I had children than after I had this, you know, my children are now adults. Um, and I felt like I knew more at the beginning. It's the same with leadership. Before I managed teams of 40 people, I thought I knew a lot more about leadership than now. And when I started my coaching practice, you're right, I thought that I could coach everybody. But what I discovered was that there were some people that, and it wasn't an age thing, it wasn't necessarily a demographic thing. It was a mindset. Those that actually wanted to stay in their problems and stay stuck in their challenges were really not my ideal target. And um, yeah, I know some coaches are very good with people like that. I'm much better with people who've got a little bit of an inkling that it's their mindset that is holding them back or their mindset's getting the results that they're getting. And if they're open to change and open to that mindset, then they get so much more out of coaching. And so now I actually do a screening call before I start with anybody, whether it's a group or whether it's an individual coaching. I insist on having a one-to-one chat with them to find out actually how much they're prepared to change, how much they are prepared to be vulnerable in terms of recognizing that it's actually their mindset that's that is there. That's probably the biggest one is the mindset. Um, in terms of demographic, most of my clients at the moment, well, actually, I'm seeing a little bit of a shift, funny enough, now that I've come out of corporate, is um the most midlife career professionals are the ones that gravitate to me. I think because they understand uh you can see I'm no longer 25, my children are past that age now, and um so I think they appreciate the fact that I've this is not my first rodeo, I've seen a couple of things. I have failed and I have succeeded. So I think they they appreciate that. But funny enough, I'm now actually getting referrals from their from them to their children. So I'm I'm almost attracting another demographic that is the next generation that is coming through the workforce. Um, so back to my original point, it comes to the mindset. If they have a mindset that they know it's their, you know, their their mind, their paradigms, their beliefs that they want to shift and change, then they will get benefit from it.

Pedro Stein 8:20

Okay, interesting. So it breaks down to be coachable in a way, to work with you, right? It's not like challenging the process, make your magic, do your thing. It's part of it is ownership from their end too. I got that right.

Jill Hutchison 8:36

Absolutely, Pedro. And I think in addition to that, most of the people that work with me have achieved something on their own already, regardless of their age. And so they understand how to make things work. They know there's a bit of hard work that's involved in it, and they have had some sort of success. So it's fairly easy to then amplify their success or help them transition into a different career or different um executive role, whatever they're looking at, because they've already they've already had some some success in the first.

There's also some track record. Okay, that's not their first rodeo as well. It's like you both have some skin in the game so you can level with them and you get you get them, they get you. Basically that.

Jill Hutchison 9:21

Yeah.

Pedro Stein 9:21

Okay. Yeah, possibly. So uh let's do a quick game of pretend here. Okay. Let's pretend I am your ideal client profile. I am a midlife career professional. I have some skin in the game. I am coachable. I do have the right mindset, right? So, first of all, how would I be able to find you? Okay, marketing-wise. And I know you mentioned referral, so I'm curious about that.

Jill Hutchison 9:48

Yeah. So most of my business at the moment is actually a referral. My website is busy being updated at the moment, so my that'll be available in a couple of weeks. Uh, and I have um executive presence on LinkedIn and Facebook as well. So I'm doing quite a lot of videos to get out there, and YouTube holds my videos there too. Uh, you'll see a collection of videos from 15 years ago to back to you know, today, for example. Um, and I find that by sharing some examples online helps people then identify what the challenge is and what they can solve in the in the instant. I also like to provide value to those that are watching any video wherever they are wherever they find it, um, that can actually help them in in the day-to-day challenges that they have with their career specifically. Okay.

Pedro Stein 10:42

So we're still in the game of pretend here. Let's say I reached out to you, like through a referral, or even I looked at your website, let's pretend that's revamped, okay? And I reach out. I'm like, hey, I would love to work with you, Jill. You know, uh, someone told me I should reach out. I did. Okay. So we can speed up the sales process just a little bit, or not, if you want to add a note there, totally fine. But what I'm curious about is like, if you could give me a little peek behind the curtain, an understanding of how does it look like to work with you? You know, structure-wise, are we talking about one-on-one? Uh, are we talking about one too many? How does that look like, you know, from a client's perspective?

Jill Hutchison 11:27

There are a couple of options, Pedro, and it really depends on what suits you. There are some group options, and there's also one-on-one coaching. What I find for people like you, ideal, ideal clients, they have specific questions that they're looking to answer. And I think they really appreciate the speed at which they can get the answers and the clarity that they're looking for in one-on-one sessions. Uh, obviously, as you know, in group sessions, you can also get that in a different format. And while you're coaching one person live, you can also coach the others by listening. But it's the insightful questions that we can go quite deep in terms of what they're understanding, and particularly if they're in a high-profile environment where confidentiality is key and discretion is key. Some of them may not want some of their coaching to be done in the presence of others, which is why I still offer that one-on-one discrete coaching.

Pedro Stein 12:25

Okay. And what would you say uh would be the potential outcomes I can expect of working with you? I know you mentioned I'm looking to some answers to my questions, right? And I understand it might be a very customized uh experience. But like if you had a pinpoint, some outcomes, what would that look like?

Jill Hutchison 12:45

Yeah. In almost all circumstances, there is a new role on the table. Um, whether they are looking to transition at the time that they start with me, or that becomes one of their objectives as we go along the way. So there's three specific stages that are coaching. One is those that have already been made redundant, who have already lost their roles and um have tried to find something, something new, but they haven't yet. So I'll work with them to make sure that they get really clear on their skill set so that they can find the next role or start a business, whatever their choice is. Um, the other is those that are actually in a role and recently promoted. So for them, it's building confidence within the role, getting really clear on what their current deliverables are and making sure that they can proceed to the next, you know, the next progression when they are ready, which is normally in a year or two or three years if they've recently been promoted. And for those that are looking to transition their roles, it's also about finding that next role for them. So overall, it's confidence in their career change or their career that they're current they're currently in. So both confidence and fulfillment and um getting a renewed sense of exactly who they are right now, because as you as you probably well aware, we're not driven today by what we were in our 20s, or we're different, you know, we're driven by different things in our 20s and 30s compared to our 40s and 50s. And very few people have taken the time to actually look at that difference and look to see what what's what's changed. So some of the initial conversations start with, I'm not as driven as I used to be. You know, I used to be so driven, I've achieved this, I've achieved that, I've achieved the next thing. And for some reason, I'm yeah, I'm just not as excited to get up in the morning. And that's sometimes even before they've decided to have a role change or the roles changed on them. But then as they start to get really honest about what they're driven by now, then they get that renewed sense of vigor and uh energy. And it's amazing what comes in terms of the next chapter for them.

Pedro Stein 14:58

Very interesting. Okay. Now I would love to peel off the onion about the business owner mentality right now, shifting gears for a second, right? Because I know you worked in corporate, I worked in corporate banking here in Brazil. I worked um at a consulting firm and all of that. And I became a business owner, right? And when I clocked out at the corporate role, I really clocked out, right? And when you're you're a business owner, something shifts because there is a switch in my head that sometimes it's harder to turn off, right? It's harder to be present. And yeah, I know that. Well, I when I was in corporate, I didn't care about sales, I didn't care about leads, right? That was all being taken care of. There is a well-noiled machine that is taking care of that. I just showed up. The work magically happened to show up in my desk, right? Oh, I got new stuff to do. I don't even care. And I understand there is a difference when we start the business, the entrepreneur journey, right? The business mentality and all of that. And sometimes we're wearing a lot of hats from marketer to sales to delivery, right? The operations, fulfillment, and all that. So, how do you think about managing your time and energy so the business doesn't start owning you, Joe?

Jill Hutchison 16:23

Do we have enough time to talk that through? People I feel like that. That's a very long answer there.

Pedro Stein 16:30

Well, give me, give me like top of mind answer. Like if you set up some boundaries, you know, I'm I'll be candid. I struggle with that still.

Jill Hutchison 16:40

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're absolutely right. Um, so what I the the question that I heard you ask was around boundaries, was around being present and around the business not owning you, right? In terms of your you know, what's what's in your head. Um, yeah, you're absolutely right. And I spent um six years in corporate, uh several years, several of those years actually flying two hours north of here into the Pilbara and working 50 to 60 hour weeks. So I have experienced the corporate life of you know that that all systems go. But you are very right in terms of your own business. There are some ideas that come to you in the middle of the night or you know, five o'clock in the morning, or whatever it is. And if you're excited about it, then you want to get up and you want to do something about it. So, apart from missing the IT department, I really do miss that big IT department. Um, one of the one of the things that I do for now is um I've started implementing business hours again. Having said that, it's now 9 p.m. So I've I've uh stretched that a little bit today, but I will start a little bit later tomorrow. Um but yeah, I find by implementing those business hours and actually saying no to specific events that are after hours, that does help me to balance that. The other thing that I've had to do is um also manage my energy because I find that uh when I'm excited about something, I do want to work flat out. And I've had burnout before. I had burnout in my early career. And so I'm very conscious of when my body is starting to feel a little bit fatigued. So I do take extra time in the morning if I need to, or I do take a half day or even sometimes a day off during the week if I really feel like I need it. So I'm quite enjoying that flexibility that I get to be able to do to manage my energy around the work that I that I create. Um what I uh implemented when I was in corporate actually, because I we had one Friday off every second week. Um so we work Monday to Monday to Thursday and then Monday to Friday, is set up in my calendar some time for things like massage, reflexology, facials, those uh and Pilates actually. So that when I look at my days off, I don't think there's nothing there and then assume that I can just get work done. I actually look at them and there's there's literally no time to get work done on those days off because I've because I've got the beach booked in, I've got Pilates booked in, I've got the massage booked in, I've got the facial booked in.

Pedro Stein 19:24

You kind of trap yourself into a schedule that you cannot avoid. So you're not doing work. That's the thing, right?

Jill Hutchison 19:31

Yeah, I absolutely do. I schedule coffee with my husband, I schedule a lunch with my husband, I schedule beach time, I schedule cycling time. Um, because I know myself I will happily just let work eat into all that time. So that's the physical, you know, that that answers your physical question. How do I how do I make sure that I'm not working 24-7 every single day? But you asked about how do you stay present and how do you not have the business churning in your head all the time. Um, and you're right, that is something that I'm also also uh uh uh wondering about. But what I've learned as a business owner is it's a whole lot easier if we're not worrying about the cash flow. If we're worrying about cash flow, there's almost this drive, well, certainly within me, there's almost this drive to keep turning and thinking, right, what else? What else can I create? Where else can I look? What else do I need to do to market? Um, whereas when you have the steady cash flow and you know that you've achieved what you want to achieve for the day or for the week, I find it's a whole lot easier to close off. So when I've had a great day, when I've facilitated with a team and it's been an outstanding outcome, those are the days that I can really switch off. I get home and I'm like, oh, that was I'm I'm tired, but I'm exhilarated because of the results that we've that we've built. And I find it's a whole lot easier to switch off on those on those days. I'm not saying that I have it perfect yet though. I think it's a I think it's an ongoing challenge. But is that not part of the entrepreneur mindset that um you know we we uh we're not turning off, we're not doing an eight to five and then just flicking the switch and walking away? There is an element of uh a little bit of behind the scenes thinking.

Pedro Stein 21:25

Back to the mindset, as it seems like. Okay. Love the love to insights. It's uh it and I love I love the fact that you brought up something like which is like kind of awareness of knowing who you are, how do you how do you click, right? That you need to block that time or else or start squeezing in work there. Okay, I like that. Um interesting. Now, I would love to ask you another question, right? Because you've been in the game long enough, and there is a hot topic for discussion in the coaching space, which is pricing. Also For a lot of service-based industries, right? Because at the end of the day, you're you're charging people for your time, which is a very self-worth path, right? So how do you approach that now? And we don't talk, we we don't have to talk about hard numbers. It's more about the mindset, right? And what did you have to learn the hard way to get where you are right now? You know, specifically about pricing.

Jill Hutchison 22:25

Yeah. Well, one of the one of the earliest lessons that I learned, and it felt like it took me several goes to really get the understanding, was uh putting prices way too cheap. What I have since since done is worked out how much time and energy I'm prepared to dedicate to a certain program or to a certain client and what I'm wanting in exchange for that. So our work and the work that we do is an exchange of energy. Whatever we put into the time, if you feel you're putting in the time and that time is being adequately remunerated, then it feels like a decent exchange of energy. If it feels like you are putting in too much time and you're not getting enough in return, then that starts to feel as if it's unbalanced and that's not sustainable. So that's going to be a different figure for each person. I have grown my expectation of what my worth is over the last few years. So I would rather have fewer clients at a premium price than hundreds of clients at a lower price. My reward is really seeing the fulfillment of those of those individuals. And as long as I'm getting rewarded adequately for the time that I'm investing, then it's a then it's a good a good match. At the beginning, I probably didn't exchange, I didn't understand that exchange of energy sufficiently. You know, the background work that one puts into a client. If you're putting in hours simply to secure a client, or you're putting in hours to get them across the line, or you know, do that admin, then that's probably not a good exchange of energy either. So I prefer to now put my time into I love coaching, that's where my strength is. That's the piece that I'm never going to delegate. Whereas parts of my the other parts of my business I can delegate.

Pedro Stein 24:23

Love that. Okay. Now I'd love for us to switch gears for a second. Because I'm curious what's the direction you're aiming this business towards, you know? Are you thinking more about growth? Leverage, building a team, refining what already works. You know, what feels most exciting right now, Jill?

Jill Hutchison 24:40

Absolutely. Um, definitely an element of leverage. So I love the one-on-one clients that I work with, and I love the fact that they appreciate the discretion and the confidentiality. So I'll continue with a core group of clients like that. Um, and I also like serving those that would like a group environment. So that leverage is quite important to me, and uh making sure that we can have long-term results with a whole cohort is what really excites me. Um the other thing, the other thing that is pretty important as well is um I now have a grandchild and we've got you know family and so on. And that flexibility of being able to take time off to spend time with them and make a difference to that, to the next generation is something that you know hasn't existed for the last five years, even though I had my own children before that. So I'm really looking to leverage so that I can still keep the impact and make sure that those that really, really want the results uh are going to get, you know, are going to get those results. Uh and that to me is more important than growing a massive business or um, you know, the the um multiple when you talk about one to many, uh yeah, it's more it's more one to one to a distinct number of of many rather than a mass market.

Pedro Stein 26:08

Okay, well, first of all, which is different, right? On the grandchildren.

Jill Hutchison 26:14

Which is different, you know. That that viewpoint of mine is different to when I first started. When I first started, I thought I wanted to be a a Bob Proctor or a um Tony Robbins, you know, or something like that, with with millions and millions of people following. Um, whereas now for me it's more about the personal, the personal touch, and I'm I'm really enjoying, yeah, the the tribe that I've attracted now.

Pedro Stein 26:38

Back to my question, right? We have to respect some boundaries. It seems like lifestyle is something important for you to protect, right? So you can actually enjoy life, not just the work side, right?

Jill Hutchison 26:49

Yeah, yeah, exactly. No, and the more I can enjoy it, then I can carry on doing it until I'm 75.

Pedro Stein 26:56

Oh, yeah. Of course. More quality work instead of quantity. That makes perfect sense. Okay, you know, and even when things are going well, as it seems they are, right? There's always something under construction. And I know you mentioned a website and all of that, but what's the main thing you're actively working on or trying to improve in the business right now?

Jill Hutchison 27:17

Yeah. The members area. So that's something that I've been thinking about for a while. I've been playing with, dipping, dipping, dipping my feet in and uh tweaking a little bit, but there's something that really needs to grow in that in that area. So that's that's what's under construction at the moment. And uh there will be a big, a big shift in that in that area because there's so much value that we can add by having the right resources at the fingertips. And when I say the right resources, it's not the volume of resources, because there are a lot of places we can get heaps, you know, we we can get Claude to coach us right now, we can get ChatGPT or anybody else to to build up a coaching program. So it's not the volume and the um, yeah, we're not looking for massive, massive information, but we want the right information at the right time. So my aim, uh, and this is this is this is always a challenge, is to what to leave out and how to arrange it to make sure that somebody gets in there and they get the highest value as quick as they can, most effective as they can for what they need right now.

Pedro Stein 28:30

Interesting. I love the fact that you brought up AI, right? Uh, in a way, I understand people are replacing to an extent the coaching side, but and the other the other piece of it, there's always the the call, the call out that you can do with a coach and AI won't. Uh, there's always like there is your experience, right? Uh your your skin in the game. So yeah, so your focus on delivering value, as it seems like, which I I I really commend on doing so. Now, uh, I would love for us to do a uh a little game here. I'm not gonna call it game, it's almost like a sci-fi thing that I I love doing, which is like, let's pretend there is a time machine in front of us, okay, Jill, and you can uh step in into that, and we're gonna have two stops, right? First stop, you can go back in time, 2008, when you found it evolved dynamic, right? And you can give past Jill one piece of business advice you know now that you wish you knew back then, right? What would that be?

Jill Hutchison 29:40

That's such a great question. 18 years brings a brings a lot of learnings.

Pedro Stein 29:49

The top of mind, I know you may have several. I want the top of mind.

Jill Hutchison 29:54

Yeah. The top of mind is to trust is to trust my intuition more. And I remember Bob Proctor saying this was if he if he could go back, he'd trust his intuition more. What I mean by that is I thought at the time that I didn't have enough experience or enough exposure to certain industries to bring value to the people in those industries, uh, which is why I actually went into mining, which I did six years of corporate. But looking back, and specifically looking back at some of my videos and looking back at some of the blog posts, I had an inert, I had a subconscious knowing, um, or what do they say, unconscious competence that I was not fully embracing or aware of. And I think if I had embraced that a whole lot more, I probably would have had more progress, better results, uh, less um learnings along the way. But hey, would I change the learnings? No, because it's made me into who I am and probably would have changed, you know, would would have changed the trajectory. Would I would I want to change the trajectory? Possibly. Um, but I've actually had some great experiences along the way, including realizing that I'm an imperfectly perfect leader or a perfectly imperfect leader, and I'm now comfortable with that, whereas I probably wouldn't have been 18 years ago.

Pedro Stein 31:21

So if I'm listening to you right, in a way, a little bit of imposter syndrome, like I'm not capable of doing this, but in reality, if you're looking back, you're more than capable, it was just you in your own way.

Jill Hutchison 31:34

Got the right absolutely. Okay, yeah, love that.

Pedro Stein 31:38

Well, that happened to me a hundred more times than you can imagine in different different things, right? I think everyone eventually goes through that. Okay, feeling that we're not ready when we're actually are. Absolutely.

Jill Hutchison 31:51

It's about if we're not ready, or we don't, we don't have an we don't have enough, or we don't have, yeah, we're not good enough at that point. We don't have enough information or enough experience or enough skills.

Pedro Stein 32:03

Yeah, I I had people in my circle, right? They're like, I'm I'm I'm positive you've seen some people like that. They're like always chasing the new certification, the new thing that will validate them, right? I'm not sure if they're hiding or if they really like afraid of being exposed to stuff, or like, oh, I'm not ready. Because I it feels like people are just sometimes stacking certifications, like just to validate, to see if eventually they will get there. You know what I mean?

Jill Hutchison 32:33

Yeah, yeah. I had I had that. I was like a woman possessed in terms of studying. I was uh pursuing three or four courses at any one time. And then I realized that what it was doing for me was I didn't have to take action while I was studying. So I could just study because I was very busy studying. And it was when I finished that that I suddenly had to, you know, that's when the rubber hit the road, and that's when I think, let me go into another, let me go and do another course. Right. So I realized I realized that I was actually using it as a procrastination mechanism.

Pedro Stein 33:10

Oh, you you made a great point of procrastination. Like in in a lot of ways, it seems like, and especially if you're a business owner uh and you have all these things to work on, and you choose certain things because you're avoiding the other, right? It's just like, oh, I'm gonna look busy here and I'm gonna work 60 hours because in reality, uh, I really don't want to do the option A, right? Which I should be. Yep. Yep. That's hilarious.

Jill Hutchison 33:42

That is Mary Morrissey said we we make ourselves too busy to prevent us from getting to the next level of awareness. Uh oh, that's I have often thought of that. Whenever I feel like I'm getting really busy, or if I hear myself saying, yeah, I'm busy, I'm like, mm-hmm. Interesting.

Pedro Stein 34:02

Yeah, it's all it's it's like the the the things you're looking for are in the work you're avoiding to do, right? Yeah. Okay, got it. Okay, second stop, time machine, back to our time machine. You can go back in time and you can pinpoint a time in those what 13 years, almost 12 years you've been in the game, right? Um, and you can select a point in time that you felt so fulfilled that you were like, ah, this is why I'm doing this, this is why I started this journey, right? So I know may have several, but top of mind, okay, where would you go?

Jill Hutchison 34:46

Probably to about four months ago. That's pretty recent. Yeah, yeah. Uh there have been several, but probably the most recent is four months ago. When one of my clients phoned me and told me that he has his anxiety has completely disappeared. He didn't come to me because of anxiety, but it came up through the conversation that he had some anxiety. He said to me, I've never been happier. Um, I'm having better career success than I've ever had. And I didn't think I'd last two minutes in this. He got promoted while we were coaching. Uh, and he also had got into relationship. And when I had spoken to him uh probably back in December, and I said, hmm, let's talk about relationship. He goes, No, Jill, not going there. I'm not interested. I don't want a relationship, not happening. Uh, nevertheless, he he indulged me and he he created a list of what he what he wanted out of a relationship because we don't just discuss career, we talk about everything as as as most good executive coaches do. But when he let me know that he was in fact feeling happier than he'd ever felt before, and yeah, that that for me really it it hit home in a deeper way than it has before. And I think it's probably because up until that point I was still debating about whether I would go back into corporate or whether I would carry on coaching. And when he spoke, and there were probably three or four clients that have very similar stories in the same week. Uh they all came back to me with that same kind of response. Less anxiety, feeling much happier, feeling much more fulfilled in their work. That's when I think it was because there were so many at the same time, that's when it really hit home that this is exactly what I was put on earth to do, and I need to really up my game and make sure that I'm reaching more people doing this.

Pedro Stein 36:44

Yeah, that is so interesting, right? Uh, thinking about that. Like when you don't emanate that needy energy and you're just chilling, that's when stuff happens. It's like his not he was not looking for it, like driven to oh, like those those girls, like, oh, I'm gonna find myself a husband, right? That doesn't really work out, right? Because they have this weird energy and people pick up on that because she's too outcome-driven instead of just being in the room and having a conversation, and that will naturally get there, right? But no, so he was not chasing it. So that's what makes it. I think for me, at least in my life, like the moments I was chasing the dollar was when I was right, I was not making so much, and when I didn't care so much, that's when it actually happened. So, isn't it while like he was not looking for it, but you got him into a good place mentally speaking, and then he emanates a different energy, and by doing so, he attracts, right?

Jill Hutchison 37:48

Yeah, that that's exactly he has become a different man, or he's become more of himself, so not entirely different, but a completely different man to the man that I met when I first started coaching him. And so I think that's probably the key. And and as you say, when people are chasing the dollar, they don't they they emanate that same desperate energy. But when they focus on working on who they are as a person and rounding out themselves and being very clear on what they need to work on, um, or certainly I know when I did, when I was sort of getting clear on what I needed to work on, I attracted a different kind of person. Um, and that's been pretty eye-opening for me in terms of um yeah, probably relaxing more into myself and making sure that um I'm walking my talk and you know, where I need to improve, which we all do throughout life, and I tend to keep on improving until I'm 85 if I live that long.

Okay. You know, a few moments from this chat today that really stood out to me. I'm gonna highlight them real quick. Okay. Uh let's go back to the secret and uh Bob Proctor uh Bob Proctor exposure, right? Uh I watched a movie. I haven't read the book, but I watched the movie like I think it was 10 years ago or something like that. I that'll like go over my head totally, and then I'm exposed to coaching, right? And like, oh, that really makes sense, you know. So watching you talking about that makes me want to read the book. So there's that, right?

Jill Hutchison 39:45

Yeah, um read then we're read the book, it's it's different to the video. If I'd if I'd re watched the movie first, I'm not sure if I would have read the book, but because I read the book first, okay. I'll do that um for me.

Pedro Stein 39:59

I'll do that. I'll read I'll read the book. And then there's also something in the origin story that you mentioned uh when I asked you, like, what clicked for you? And you were like, results coming from my clients, right? So I love that because it's although I get it, it's a lot of this is based on mindset, but there is a reality component, which is you're helping people and you're seeing the results. It's not just about I want to be better, and but you you have a mirror. You have a mirror and you have your clients' results and you have their feedback. So it's important. I think the reality check, like to anchor you into the right path, I think that's crucial. Okay. So there's that. Um another thing that caught my attention, it's like you mentioned that you're not driven by the same things when you were 20 and your 30s and your 40s, right? And if you think about career uh decisions are made in our 20s, it's like we're like joining uh you know a university, we're like trying to figure out stuff, and then 20 years from there, we're realizing maybe that was not the right decision. And maybe we want to shift something, you know. Uh so that the way you framed it, very interesting. Kudos to you on that. Um, I would say last but not least is the the client you brought up, right? About the anxiety and all of that. And you know, that brings me back to a quote. It's sell them what they want, give them what they need. He didn't join you to fix his anxiety or to fix whatever that looked like right now that you helped him achieve. Although that happened during the process. So sometimes it's hard to pinpoint that for people that were not exposed to coaching because it's hard to understand the layers. We're gonna talk about the the results because it's a very customized and also we need their openness, right? But uh that really stood out to me, so really like that too. Now, that's just my long-winded way of saying, Jill, that I appreciate you okay for taking the time and being open with this. Thank you, Pedro. It was great having you on.
